Is the pen really mightier than the sword? Of course! Writing is arguably one of the most powerful tools in the human arsenal, if one possesses the knowledge needed to wield it. Whether this particular form of self-expression comes naturally to your child or not, our creative writing camp provides a memorable crash-course to learn to hone, perfect, and love the art form that is writing. Correct formats will be taught for each writing style, along with tips from experienced writers, and specific individualized feedback. This summer, hand your child a great power and life skill by registering them for this camp!
Science: Chemistry and the Environment
Instructors: Michelle Chen and Ava Abraham
Schedule: 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM CST
June 27 - July 1
Targeted Grade Level: 4th to 7th
In this camp, students will study some of the biggest environmental dilemmas facing society today— climate change, the energy crisis, deforestation, pollution— and scientists' proposed solutions to these issues. Chemistry-wise, we will cover topics from the quirks of the periodic table to how different substances interact with one another. Experiments, educational games, images, and interactive activities accompany the lessons to make the camp experience a blast for all participants! By the end of this course, students will come up with and present their own research questions, so that they may continue to explore these ideas and even utilize them to build their own science fair projects after camp ends. Soon enough, your child will find themselves enthralled and entangled in the web that is science! Sign up now for the fun to begin!
Science: Biology and Physics
Instructors: Prisha Verma and Jessica Wang
Schedule: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM CST
July 18 - July 22
Targeted Grade Level: 5th to 8th
Biology is the study of life, and is subsequently studied by a multitude of professions, from biomedical engineers to archeologists to botanists. However, at the very root, at the very base of biology, is physics. In fact, if not for the governing laws of physics, life as we know it would be impossible. To ever move forward in science, students must grasp this crucial connection. In this camp, students will learn the basics of physics- Newton's Laws of Motion, weight and gravity, types of forces, everything short of rocket science! They will then advance to biology, studying spellbinding topics, from ecosystems to body systems to polymers. Each lesson is taught with hands-on experiment demonstrations, many pictures, and engaging activities. Register now to understand the world as we know it on a whole other level!
Reading
Instructors: Julia Nguyen and Jessica Zhang
Schedule: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM CST
August 1 - August 5
Targeted Grade Level: 3rd to 6th
In our reading camp, your child can refresh and practice their English skills instead of being shipped off in the fall with a blank mind. They will be exposed to one classic book selected for their age group, written by a world-renowned author such as Dickens, Mark Twain, or Arthur Conan Doyle. From that book, students will gain the ability to grasp and analyze advanced literature, so they may find the inspiration to devour more literature and even write a book of their own. Vocabulary, grammar rules, conjunctions, types of sentences, and more will be covered to form one super camp! Instructors dole out daily practice, give personalized suggestions, and help kids practice with mini games and competitions. Sign your child up to ensure they come back to school prepared and ready!
FULL SUMMER SCHEDULE
It's never too early to get a taste of your possible future. Are you already geared up for the medical track? Curious about it, maybe? Or perhaps you enjoy solving mysteries? In our disease diagnosis camp, tasks and situations that medical professionals face will be simulated for the students. The class will be taught about a painful variety of illnesses and abnormalities, and children will learn to identify each based on a specific combination of symptoms. "Case studies" shall be presented, interactive games sprinkled throughout, and diagrams and pictures used to help every budding healer practice and remember. Kids will love feeling like an investigator, pinpointing the exact affliction at fault. Your child will be a doctor (sort of!) for a week... if you sign up now!
